The Best Way To Reveal Your Lightbulb Moment
The Best Way To Reveal Your Lightbulb Moment Press Release: New survey reveals the best situation for finding your âlightbulb moment.â My Own Stationery has conducted a study into the situations in which people feel their most inspired in the pursuit of better creative thought. Surveying over 100 creative professionals across the UK, they sought to find out if there were more common situations, such as being inside or outside, and being with company or alone, which could inspire creativity. The personalised notebook online retailer, based in Carryduff, Northern Ireland, has found that most people feel most creative when outside, relaxing, by themselves. In particular, set designer, Anne Atkins, who worked on Wes Andersonâs The Grand Budapest Hotel, commented, âI find nothing less inspiring than looking at a blank artboard on my computer screen. I really need to get out and about â" start rooting through flea markets for treasure.â 64% of people feel more inspired while alone, rather than with people. Interestingly, these findings reveal glaring faults with the popular group brainstorming methods implied in schools and workplaces everywhere. Rather than conversation and cooperation, it would seem most people have their finest brain waves while alone in independent thoughts. Moreover, only 28% of people felt most creative when speaking aloud, whether alone or with others, again highlighting how the standard style of brainstorming may not be the best way to trigger inspiration. It was also found that 59% of respondents said that they felt more creative while relaxing, bolstering the idea that we need time to relax and rejuvenate in order to do our best work. Moreover, this reveals just how important time away from the workplace is for those in creative industries or whose work depends on innovative, creative thinking. âItâs extremely interesting to see that most people actually find their creativity away from offices, in solitude,â says Lorraine Kelly at My Own Stationery. âWhile in the office, of course, we hope that our notebooks can be a useful creative outlet for anyone brainstorming or hoping for their next eureka moment.â The bottom line: maybe its time to take a break, get away, and give your creative self a powerful new boost! Get Grounded with Root Veggies
Get Grounded with Root Veggies The roots of any plant are its anchor and foundation; they are the essential parts that support and nourish the plant. Root vegetables lend these properties to us when we eat them, making us feel physically and mentally grounded and rooted, increasing our stability, stamina and endurance. Roots are a rich source of nutritious complex carbohydrates, providing a steady source of necessary sugars to the body. Instead of upsetting blood sugar levels like refined sweet foods, they regulate them. Since they absorb, assimilate and supply plants with vital nutrients, roots likewise increase absorption and assimilation in our digestive tracts. Long roots, like burdock, carrots, parsnips and daikon radish, are excellent blood purifiers and can help improve circulation in the body and increase mental clarity. Round roots, like turnips, radishes, beets and rutabagas, are nourishing to the stomach, spleen, pancreas and reproductive organs and can help regulate blood sugar and moods, and alleviate cravings. Recipe: Roasted Root Vegetables Prep time: 10 minutes Cooking time: 25-35 minutes Yield: 4-6 servings Ingredients: 1 sweet potato 2 parsnips 2 carrots 2 turnips or 1 large rutabaga 1 daikon radish (or substitute/add in your favorites, like squash) olive oil salt and pepper herbs: rosemary, thyme or sage (fresh if possible) Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. 2. Wash and chop all vegetables into large bite-sized pieces. 3. Place in a large baking dish with sides. 4. Drizzle with olive oil; mix well to coat each vegetable lightly with oil. 5. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and herbs. 6. Bake uncovered for 25-35 minutes until vegetables are tender and golden brown, checking every 10 minutes to stir and make sure veggies are not sticking. Note: Any combination of vegetables will work. Roasting only one kind of vegetable also makes a nice side dish.

My Top 4 Personal Branding Goals for 2010 - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
My Top 4 Personal Branding Goals for 2010 - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career I canât believe itâs already 2010. Not only did we end another year, but we ended another decade. Ten years ago, I didnât have an established personal brand. But now, in 2010, Iâm excited about planning ahead for growing my brand over the next yearâ"and decade. Plan your work and work your plan Everyone knows we make resolutions we canât keep, mostly because they werenât achievable in the first place or simply not measurable. So instead of resolutions for my personal brand, Iâm making a detailed plan of what Iâd like to accomplish by the end of the yearâ"all of which you can do, too. 1. Secure at least one paid speaking engagement every month, or 12 total for the year. I just love speaking to student groupsâ"particularly when I receive notes from them afterward about how I inspired them to take action in their future careers. (I recently received an e-mail update from a student whose university I spoke at in October. Heâs interning with the CIA this semester because of the tips I provided!) Iâm well on my way to achieving this, with two speaking engagements booked in February and a planned nationwide speaking tour with Lisa Orrell, The Generation Relations Expert. 2. Put my business in the black. Although Come Recommended had an extremely successful launch in mid-May 2009, we didnât turn a profit our first year. However, Iâm nowhere near discouraged by this fact because we just launched a brand new service, GoodieRecruit, that weâre piloting in Washington, D.C. and has already received rave reviews in the area. 3. Finish my two paperback books and publish a new e-book every six (or so) weeks. My first book, #ENTRYLEVELtweet: From Classroom to Cubicle, is going through the final stages of publishing and should be out in late-January or early-February. My other book, Come Recommended: From Freshman to Newbie, should be out by the time Spring graduation rolls around. I just published the first e-book (my second one, actually, but the first in this new effort), Relocating for an Entry-Level Job: Why You Probably Have to How to Do It. Now I just need to keep the momentum going! All these books are not about the money but rather the prestige that comes with being a published author. 4. Create an editorial calendar for all my writing commitments and guest blog more often. I write for so many different outlets, and Iâve just added a new one. So, itâs about time I really manage all of my content so I can stay on track and on message. In terms of guest blogging, I know there are even more potential audience members Iâm not yet reaching. To help alleviate that, Iâve made a list of bloggers with whom I already have relationships and ones I still need to get to know a little better in order to further my 2010 goals. Hopefully along the way I can return many, if not all, of the favors! How about you? What are your personal branding goals for 2010 and your plan for achieving them? Author: Heather R. Five simple ways to STFU in meetings - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog
Five simple ways to STFU in meetings - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog If theres one problem that plagues most business meetings its that a few participants are doing most of the talking. If youre one of those people who tend to talk a lot, here are 5 tips to help you shut up and listen when you need to. 1: Put your hand over your mouth You can put one hand over the lower part of your face and your mouth. To an outside observer you will look thoughtful and observant. In reality your holding your mouth forcibly shut. Its a simple physical reminder to yourself to not speak right now. 2: Ask some great questions People find you very intelligent and persuasive when you let them talk. For instance, the most successful sales meetings are the ones where the customer does almost all the talking. A great way to get them talking, and still feel that youre contributing, is to ask great questions. 3: Keep track Have a piece of paper in front of you and make a mark on it every time you speak. Notice how many marks you get up to during a meeting. 4: Notice how you feel when youre quiet In my case, I get real antsy when theres something Im itching to say. My body tenses up, I tend to hold my breath and I feel generally very uncomfortable. This pressure eventually forces me to speak up. How about you how do you feel when theres something you really want to say? 5: Ask yourself a simple question Before you speak, ask yourself this: Is what Im about to say something I need to say or something the other participants need to hear? Those are often not the same. The upshot Remember: good meetings are not characterized by the amount of talking but by the amount of listening going on. If youre a habitual talker like me, Im sure that you will find that learning to say less and listen more will be a huge boon. People will find you more sympathetic, they will respect you more and even though you may end up saying less, what you do say will be received more appreciatively and have much more of an impact.
